"Under Ice" by Kate Bush

Updated March 19th, 2012:

I decided that although I love "It's Now Winter's Day" by Tommy Roe, it is not a song that I would play over and over.  In other words it is not what I would rate as a "10", it is a "9".   Fortunately, I played this Kate Bush song in my show on KCQN Utah a couple of weeks ago, and it fits perfectly in with the "Icy" songs I was posting around the end of November last year.  It is also definitely one of my favorite songs.  There are many videos using this song on YouTube.  I picked a few that were interesting.  Do a search on YouTube for a plethora of others.

"It's Now Winter's Day" by Tommy Roe

Boggles my mind that it has been almost 45 years since this record hit the charts...

"Ice" by Sarah McLachlan

Okay, this isn't totally a Winter song, but it is kinda Icy.

"Icy Cold as Winter" by Swing Out Sister

I was sick last night and was too tired to post a song, so this is my song for Monday. November 28, 2011.  I've decided to try to do a week of Winter/Cold/Icy songs (assuming I can think of that many).  Starting off with yet another great song from Swing Out Sister:

"World" by New Order

Rachel update 25-Mar-2017: for the second time this morning I've been greeted with this: "This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds. | Sorry about that." when I clicked on a link.

Sigh!

So here is a video officially posted by Rhino that will hopefully work  :)

YouTube (Official): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXzs47qy2Pk

I was watching this video again (I really like the video for this song) and noticed that the woman that turns and enters the hotel is wearing a hat similar to my "go to" hat.  SueZQ calls it my "ladies who wear hats" hat.

Original post:

I like many of the older New Order tracks, but for some reason I fell in love with the entire "Republic" album.  Listening to these tracks tonight I am reminded that it is a masterpiece.  I love every song on this album, but if I have to pick one I guess it would be "World":

I turn sideways to the sun
And keep my thoughts from everyone
It's a Jungle, I'm a freak
Hear me talk but never speak

"Low Life" by Naked Eyes

I didn't realize how good Naked Eyes were in the 80's, it wasn't until the 90's when I discovered how great they were.

"Hello It's Me" by Nazz

Some people may not know it, but this is the original version of this song by Todd Rundgren's band Nazz, from around 1968.  I've always like this version better than the uptempo remake.  This song still reminds me of high school and one of my girlfriends.  The two versions sound basically the same, the description and comments are different.

"Place That's Insane" by The Northern Pikes

Starting off the N's with a somewhat obscure number.  I couldn't find a studio version YouTube but this live version from 1990 is really good.  The 2009 version is good too and has a little intro about the origin of the song.

"Goodbye Miss Swift" by Swing Out Sister

Although this album is a little strange to listen to because many of the tracks are quite short, I still very much enjoy it.

"Across The Alley From The Alamo" by The Mills Brothers

My Grandfather loved the Mills Brothers so we had all of their albums.  I have several favorites of theirs but this one has been a favorite lately.  The two versions I found seemed a bit different so I posted them both.

Update 4-Nov-2014:

I forgot to check first and reposted this song, before deleting it I thought I would add that posting to this post...

I think this is my favorite Mills Brothers song.  The line about Duz and Lux is so funny, that was so long ago.

"London" by Barry Manilow

I was tired again last night and forgot to post this, so this is my song for Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011.  It is another of my very favorite Barry Manilow songs.  I don't believe it was ever a hit.

Rachel  update 3-Jan-2017: added link.  I originally posted this on the 18th, but at some point I changed the date to the 17th so it matched the date for the song.

"Randy Scouse Git" by The Monkees

I have decided to do another week of M's.  My debate over which Monkees song I should have posted continued after my post last week.  And I really wanted to post some other M's as well, so here we go with week deux.

"Alpine Crossing" by Swing Out Sister

Oops, several nights of insomnia resulted in my falling asleep before I had a chance to post a song last night.  So this is my selection for Monday, November 14th, 2011.  As a bonus for my being late with this post I have found some other really fun Swing Out Sister videos that Andy posted on YouTube that I've included here!

YouTube (album): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-hvyTdOTtU

And here is a rehearsal for Andy's Jubilee party earlier this year:

"Now Is The Time (For Love)" by Missing Persons

A friend took me to this damaged merchandise store and they had a bunch of CDs  and cassettes for something like 79 cents.  I bought a whole box of different cassettes, but Rhyme and Reason is the one that stood out.  I kept it in my car and played it all the time.  Loved the entire album.  I think I later bought the record, and the CD when it was finally released years later.  I had a terrible time picking just one song as the title for this post.  This one jumped out while I was listening to the videos, so I picked it, but they are all wonderful.

"When October Goes" by Barry Manilow

I know some people scoff at Barry Manilow, but I really enjoy some of his work.  I think this is a great song and very appropriate for this season.
