"(It Ain't Necessarily) Bird Avenue" by Spanky and Our Gang

This song has some funky lyrics that I'm not quite sure I've decoded, but it's fun anyway!

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxZN6VvST3Y

Update:  I was going to post this song on 9-Nov-2014 because I had recently found the 45 and the album and discovered that the title was different on the LP and the 45.   But when I went to post it I  discovered I had already posted it here.  Since I had scanned the labels in already, I decided I would go back and post them here.

"Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" by Kenny Rogers & The First Edition

This is my condition in 2018

Rachel  update 2-Apr-2019: SueZQ was watching an episode of Laugh In on Amazon Prime and saw this video for this song.  It was so cool I had to see if I had in my blog.  Not only did I find that I didn't, I found the one link I had is now dead.  I have now added some new links including one to the video we saw on Laugh In:

"The Crying Scene" by Aztec Camera

Doing some cleanup at KCQN Utah this morning and happened across this song and remembered what a great song it is.

You only get one hit
That's the beauty of it
What's the good in cryin'

It's always been that way
At the end of the day
You gotta keep on tryin'

Life's a one take movie
And I don't care what it means
I'm saving up my tears
For the cryin' scene

"Lost Her in the Sun" by John Stewart

Another track from the "Bombs Away Dream Babies" album that I've been wearing out trying to record it.  I couldn't find the album/studio version on YouTube so for now this live version with some other songs mixed in will have to do...

"Happy Ending" by Swing Out Sister

I had this song stuckin my head all day.  And then I did have a happy ending :)

The SLC Police found my bike that was stolen a few weeks ago.  (Thanks!!!)  I am so happy.  An unexpected and happy ending!

"Smoke From a Distant Fire" by Sanford and Townsend

I think I've been wearing this record out just trying to record it.  I set up an old PowerMac to record some vinyl, but it has turned into some grief.  I wanted to record them with 24-bits at 192 KHz, but then I was getting buffer underruns.  Tried recording with real-time priority but then the dammed thing crashed.  I'm wondering if this machine having hardware issues because of it's age.

"Morning Girl" by Neon Philharmonic

When I was viewing yesterday's song on YouTube it had a link to this song, which is another favorite.  An unusual and cool thing about this song is there was a part two: "Morning Girl Later".

"Neon Rainbow" by The Box Tops

It is funny how you can get to something indirectly.  I was looking up a Paul Westerberg song for KCQN Utah and it mentioned that he had written a eulogy for Alex Chilton that appeared in the New York Times.  So I took a peek at the Alex Chilton page and that led me to The Box Tops.  Which in turn reminded me of this, my favorite Box Tops song.

"Spirit Moves" by Swing Out Sister

Playing B-sides in my show tonight on KCQN Utah, it's the B-side to "Am I the Same Girl".  I've been listening to this song over and over this morning, it fits my mood.

YouTube: Unfortunately I can't find this song on YouTube, I have searched around and I can't find it anywhere that you can listen.

"Don't Sleep in the Subway" by Petula Clark

Interesting it shows a SACD (Super Audio CD) in the video.  I was disappointed to read that tests they ran, people couldn't tell the difference.  Technically, it is clearly superior and as this http://www.korg.com/services/products/mr/Future_Proof_Recording_Explained.pdf document explains, a much better archival format than PCM.

"Can't Stop Killing You" by Kirsty MacColl

A great song and video from the late Kirsty MacColl

Rachel Update 13-Aug-2016: It turns out the original link to this video on YouTube has been blocked.  I'm adding some more links that are currently working.

I also want to comment on how this song and video depict the fear that far too many women experience far too often.  I got a taste of that on 5-Oct-2016 when some guy pulled up next to me and wanted me to get in his car.  He didn't want to take no for an answer.  After he pulled away, I got in my car and he must have been lurking because when I pulled out of the parking lot he started chasing me.  I wrote a little about in my blog on 6-Oct-2015.

"Cosmik Debris" by Frank Zappa

Another song that I just love the lyrics.  "Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Interesting that the first album cover shown in the video is a Quadradisc.
