Rachel Update 23-Aug-2018: I scanned in my notes of what songs were on the cassettes today so I added the one for "Best of All #7":
I'm filling in my old blog
using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my posts on March 1st and May 20th).
This is the 7th song on Side B of my "Favorites" cassette #7.

I'm a transgender woman who has loved music for as long as she can remember. My earliest memories are of sitting or laying on the floor and listening to 45's and 78's. Music is and has been the essential part of my life. I started this blog in 2011 in an attempt to create a list of my favorite music. In April of 2015, when I started my transition to becoming Rachel, I created a new blog to continue the effort: http://rachels-vital-music.blogspot.com/

This is the 6th song on Side B of my "Favorites" cassette #7. I always thought it was cool that the two parts of this song were on the two sides of the 45 RPM single.

"Get that Gasoline Blues" by NRBQ
I'm filling in my old blog
using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my post on March 1st and May 20th).
The 3rd song on Side B of my "Favorites" cassette #7 is "Give It to Me" by the J. Giles Band. But I'm not really feeling it as a "favorite".
This is the 4th song and I love it. I found the 45 of it a couple of years ago and I get a real kick out of it! I love the "95 cents a gallon" as a bad thing! Haha, when we got to $4 a gallon a few years ago (2008) LOL!
I certainly hope we get away from carbon fuels as soon as possible!
The "Topic" version is definitely a different recording than my 45. The first video is very similar, just longer. Probably the album version.

This is the first song on Side B of my "Favorites" cassette #7. I can't believe I have never posted this wonderful song until now (and since I'm writing this post in February of 2017 that's a long time to not have have posted it.

Track 9 on my "Favorites" cassette #7 was "Jim Dandy" by Black Oak Arkansas, but I'm not feeling it right now so I'm going to skip it for the purposes of this blog.
This is track 10 on the cassette and the last song on Side A (it's only a 60 minute cassette or as it was called a C-60):

"Got to Be There" by The Jackson 5
I'm filling in my old blog
using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my post on March 1st and May 20th).
This song is track #6 on my "Favorites" cassette #7. It is so weird to think how much has changed since this song came out. I still have the 45 RPM single. The whole Michael Jackson saga, so SAD!!
Every time I think about how different I was then, I had no idea I was a girl then. It is so clear now, that I was always a girl. Freaky that many of the other kids recognized I was a girl but I didn't. But I've talked about that a lot in my post-transition blog, so I won't reiterate it here.

"Groovy Situation" by Gene Chandler
I'm filling in my old blog
using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my post on March 1st and May 20th).
This song is track #5 on my "Favorites" cassette #7. So funny that now I'm "that girl". I so love being a girl/woman, it is absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me.
I had completely forgotten about the "That Girl" TV show, which Wikipedia states "was one of the first sitcoms to focus on a single woman who was not a domestic or living with her parents. Some consider this show the forerunner of the highly successful The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and an early indication of the changing roles of American women in feminist-era America.".
As I'm writing this post on 28-Jan-2017, Mary Tyler Moore just passed away a few days ago. She was an amazing woman!
I still have that Mercury 45 RPM single. The "lyrics" video is a different version, I'm guessing a re-recording.

"Big City Miss Ruth Ann" by Gallery
Rachel Update
23-Aug-2017: I scanned in some of the notes I took about what is on my
old "Best of All" cassette tapes. Here is the one where I listed the tracks on cassette #6:
I'm actually posting this on 17-Dec-2016. I'm filling in my old blog using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my posts from March 1st and May 3rd).
Track 8 of my "favorites" cassette #6 is "Do You Know What I Mean?" by Lee Michaels which I posted on 12-May-2012 and this is track 9, the last song on side 2.
I kinda feel like they are dissing Big City Miss Ruth Ann. But I say "Be exactly what you wanna, man". I am so much happier being Rachel and I do love wearing those fine clothes, LOL!

"California Kid And Reemo" by Lobo
I'm actually posting this on 17-Dec-2016. I'm filling in my old blog using songs from my old "favorites" cassette tapes (see my posts from March 1st and May 3rd). This is track 7 from side 2 of cassette #6.
I was looking back to my posts to see what other Lobo songs I've posted and found my post from the 25th of March where I had skipped over another Lobo song: "A Simple Man". I listened to the song again and it I like the song and some of the lyrics resonate with me. For example: "Why do we open our mouth, ah stick a foot in".
I thought about posting it to Rachel's Vital Music blog, but posting "A Simple Man" feels weird knowing that I'm a woman. Anyway, I love this song and I really love the "scenic" video.

"Come Together" by The Beatles
Back on April 10th
I posted a delightful instrumental version of this song, but I realized
today that I haven't posted the original version. So I'm going to
correct that omission now.
Years ago I heard somewhere that each verse of this song was about one of the Beatles. Other that the verse with "Ono sidecar", I've never been able to figure out which verse was about which Beatle. I wonder if there is anything on Wikipedia... Damn! In looking at the Wikipedia disambiguation page it doesn't appear that, as of now (16-Oct-2015), no one appears to have created a "Come Together" page for The Beatles song. There are several other songs with the same title, but different artists. Oh well...
I disagree with one of the lines they have in the lyrics, I'm pretty sure he sings "Hold you in his arms 'til you can feel his disease".

"Another Day" by Paul McCartney
This is track 5 on side 2 of my "favorites" cassette #6 (see my posts from March 1st and May 3rd). There is a nice history of the song on this video. As it notes this song was not released on the album at the time, but was added to some versions of the CD as a bonus track.

"Cindy Incidentally" by Faces
The first track on side 2 of my "favorites" cassette #6 (see my posts from March 1st and May 3rd). When I first heard this on the cassette I thought it was just Rod Stewart, I had forgotten that it was a band called "Faces". I always loved the title of their previous album: "A Nod Is As Good As a Wink... to a Blind Horse".

"Dreaming Room" by Don Fardon
The first track on side 1 of cassette #6 of my favorites tapes from the mid-1970's (see my post from March 1st) is "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. I posted it 13 months ago on 3-April-2012.
This song is track #2, which is my favorite song by Don Fardon, I 'm surprised I haven't posted it before now. You may remember Don Fardon he was the first one to have a hit with "Indian Reservation", years before Paul Revere and the Raiders, if I remember correctly. This song was actually the B-side to "Indian Reservation".
