I love this video, the pictures of people (I assume from '74-'75) and then video of them later when the video was made.

I'm a transgender woman who has loved music for as long as she can remember. My earliest memories are of sitting or laying on the floor and listening to 45's and 78's. Music is and has been the essential part of my life. I started this blog in 2011 in an attempt to create a list of my favorite music. In April of 2015, when I started my transition to becoming Rachel, I created a new blog to continue the effort: http://rachels-vital-music.blogspot.com/

"Harper Valley P.T.A." by Jeannie C. Riley
I was listening to a CD-R copy of a cassette copy of the reel-to-reel tape that Cliff Peterson of the Hi-Fi Shop recorded originally (see my post from 5-Aug-2011). It has an instrumental version on it and I thought "I should post the original", it's a great song.

Maybe I just have a thing for songs that have the title "I'm On Fire". I previously posted the one by Bruce Springsteen on 26-Jun-2012, I'm surprised that I forgot to post this on until now.

"Hurt So Bad" by the Lettermen
I was in Our Store last night and found a Lettermen album. It wasn't a really interesting album, what I was interested in was that it had the stamps on it for the KLUB AM 570 Khz radio station. That was my grandfather's favorite radio station. I had to have it just for the stamp. Today's song is NOT from this album. It was one of their big hits from the 60's.

"Get In Touch With Yourself" by Swing Out Sister
As I mentioned yesterday I was listening to the "Live at the Jazz Cafe" CD in the car and realized there were some great songs I had yet to post. I have included both the studio version and the version from "Live at the Jazz Cafe", I love them both.

I have decided that I need to make important notes to myself, here where I can find them. As I think I have mentioned before MS has made it so that I don't think things through very well, or at least in a timely manner.
Note to self: remember to negotiate the price, or at least the range of the price, for getting work done BEFORE the work is done!

"Circulate" by Swing Out Sister
It has been some time since I posted a Swing Out Sister song, but never fear I still have many to post. I was listening to the "Live at the Jazz Cafe" CD (in my opinion the best "live" album ever) in the car today and realized I had never posted this song. I have included the version from "Live at the Jazz Cafe" as it is a great version too, I love them both.

"Cabaret" by Ray Conniff and Singers
I was listening to Ray Conniff's "Greatest Hits" record this morning and really enjoyed hearing this song. I have to say that I thought it was funny that it seems like every time I am looking through the records at a thrift store, I find some Ray Conniff album I've never seen before. Then I was looking at the Ray Conniff wikipedia page a it appears that he recorded around 90 record albums.

Rachel update 9-Apr-2017: added a link to "live TV" video.
I was listening to this while jogging today. All these years (it's crazy to think this song is 50 years old now) I couldn't understand the one line. It has only been in the last couple of years that I figured out it is "your nose is longer than a telephone wire".

"I'll Stand By You" by Pretenders
On a trip to New York, SueZQ with the Twin Towers in the background |
Rachel update 30-March-2020: turns out the original link is dead, I've added some new ones below. Also removed "The" from the band name, it's just "Pretenders" without a "The".
I should add some notes to this now, since I'm out now living as a transgender-woman. I believe that trip to my doctor was an epic one! The one when my doctor put me on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) to begin my transition.
This is my 5 year anniversary of living full-time as a woman. It was the end of March 2015 and I started to put on some men's clothes to take a load to the dumps. And SueZQ jumped in my shit, told me now that I'd come out to Mariah, it would confuse her if she saw me wearing men's clothes again. I legally changed my name and gender on 5-May-2015.
Anyway, it is pretty rare that a relationship/marriage survives one of the persons in it changing their gender. So SueZQ staying with me after my transition is really incredible, she really has stood by me.

"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman
My Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 at Bonneville Raceway |
I think it is somewhat rare that a song reaches out and grabs me the first time I hear it and I say "that is an incredible song". This is one of those songs. I even remember where I was the first time I heard it, I was listening to X96 driving down Sunnyside Ave. just East of East High School.

"Mr. Sandman" by The Chordettes
I was trying to think of a song from 1955 this morning. I was playing the "Remember How Great...? Volume 2" record (see my post from October 24th). And I seem to remember seeing a sign advertising "Mr. Sandman" in front of the record store, when Marty went back to 1955, in the movie "Back to the Future".

"Hurting Each Other" by Carpenters
This was my original post for 31-Dec-2014,
which I had scheduled a couple of days before. However, I have changed
my mind and decided to push it out until today. I want to write a
special post for the last day of 2014.
I wanted to end the year on a happy note, but right now nothing is coming to mind. When I said in my post a couple of days ago I wished we could all stop "hurting each other" it reminded me of this song.
