"'74-'75" by The Connells

I love this video, the pictures of people (I assume from '74-'75) and then video of them later when the video was made.

"Harper Valley P.T.A." by Jeannie C. Riley

I was listening to a CD-R copy of a cassette copy of the reel-to-reel tape that Cliff Peterson of the Hi-Fi Shop recorded originally (see my post from 5-Aug-2011).  It has an instrumental version on it and I thought "I should post the original", it's a great song.

"I'm On Fire" by Dwight Twilley Band

Maybe I just have a thing for songs that have the title "I'm On Fire".  I previously posted the one by Bruce Springsteen on 26-Jun-2012, I'm surprised that I forgot to post this on until now.

"Getting Better" by The Beatles

I was thinking this morning that things are getting better and this song popped into my head.

"Hurt So Bad" by the Lettermen

I was in Our Store last night and found a Lettermen album.  It wasn't a really interesting album, what I was interested in was that it had the stamps on it for the KLUB AM 570 Khz radio station.  That was my grandfather's favorite radio station.  I had to have it just for the stamp.  Today's song is NOT from this album.  It was one of their big hits from the 60's.

"Rock a Doodle Do" by Linda Lewis

I was listening to one of the old Warner-Reprise Loss Leader records and heard this fun song for the first time it years.  "I'd give up my lunch for you, baby."

"Get In Touch With Yourself" by Swing Out Sister

As I mentioned yesterday I was listening to the "Live at the Jazz Cafe" CD in the car and realized there were some great songs I had yet to post.  I have included both the studio version and the version from "Live at the Jazz Cafe", I love them both.

YouTube (Live at the Jazz Cafe): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF0DvGB5YX0

I have decided that I need to make important notes to myself, here where I can find them.  As I think I have mentioned before MS has made it so that I don't think things through very well, or at least in a timely manner.

Note to self: remember to negotiate the price, or at least the range of the price, for getting work done BEFORE the work is done!

"Circulate" by Swing Out Sister

It has been some time since I posted a Swing Out Sister song, but never fear I still have many to post.  I was listening to the "Live at the Jazz Cafe" CD (in my opinion the best "live" album ever) in the car today and realized I had never posted this song.  I have included the version from "Live at the Jazz Cafe" as it is a great version too, I love them both.

"Cabaret" by Ray Conniff and Singers

I was listening to Ray Conniff's "Greatest Hits" record this morning and really enjoyed hearing this song.  I have to say that I thought it was funny that it seems like every time I am looking through the records at a thrift store, I find some Ray Conniff album I've never seen before.  Then I was looking at the Ray Conniff wikipedia page a it appears that he recorded around 90 record albums.

"If It Makes You Happy" by Sheryl Crow

WJ sent me a mix CD with some really fun songs on it, including this one.  This is probably my favorite Sheryl Crow song.  I have to agree "if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad".

Rachel Update 27-Nov-2016: While making my post today I came across this video with Kacey Musgraves and Sheryl Crow:

"Liar, Liar" by The Castaways

Rachel update 9-Apr-2017: added a link to "live TV" video.

I was listening to this while jogging today.  All these years (it's crazy to think this song is 50 years old now) I couldn't understand the one line.  It has only been in the last couple of years that I figured out it is "your nose is longer than a telephone wire".

"So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright" by Simon & Garfunkel

This has always been one of my favorite S&G songs.  I had no idea until a couple of years ago, it was alluding to their breakup.

"You Were Meant For Me" by Jewel

I heard this song on the radio last night and it was driving me crazy what it was.  I kept thinking it might be Poe but that didn't seem quite right.  I was feeling tired this morning and this kinda fit my mood.  "Dreams last for so long..."

"Wade In the Water" by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass

I was listening to the "Solid Brass" record the and thought what a great tune this is. Check out the old studio equipment in the TV video.  Crazy to think that was almost 50 years ago.

"Driving" by Everything But The Girl

I have so many memories, both good and bad, attached to this song.  But it will always be a favorite.  It's hard to believe that was 25 years ago, a quarter of a century!

"I'll Stand By You" by Pretenders

On a trip to New York, SueZQ with the Twin Towers in the background

Rachel update 30-March-2020: turns out the original link is dead, I've added some new ones below.  Also removed "The" from the band name, it's just "Pretenders" without a "The".

I should add some notes to this now, since I'm out now living as a transgender-woman.  I believe that trip to my doctor was an epic one! The one when my doctor put me on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) to begin my transition.

This is my 5 year anniversary of living full-time as a woman.  It was the end of March 2015 and I started to put on some men's clothes to take a load to the dumps.  And SueZQ jumped in my shit, told me now that I'd come out to Mariah, it would confuse her  if she saw me wearing men's clothes again.  I legally changed my name and gender on 5-May-2015.

Anyway, it is pretty rare that a relationship/marriage survives one of the persons in it changing their gender.  So SueZQ staying with me after my transition is really incredible, she really has stood by me.

Original Post:

We were on the way home from the doctor's office today and this song came on the radio.  Sue said that it should be her theme song and I have to agree, she certainly has done that.

"She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper

There was a link to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" on the song I posted yesterday.  But when I checked, today, I already posted "Time After Time" on 9-Nov-2012.  So I thought I would post another Cyndi Lauper favorite today.

"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman

My Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 at Bonneville Raceway
Rachel update 26-Dec-2018: added photo above.

I think it is somewhat rare that a song reaches out and grabs me the first time I hear it and I say "that is an incredible song".  This is one of those songs.  I even remember  where I was the first time I heard it, I was listening to X96 driving down Sunnyside Ave. just East of East High School.

"Mr. Sandman" by The Chordettes

I was trying to think of a song from 1955 this morning.  I was playing the "Remember How Great...?  Volume 2" record (see my post from October 24th).  And I seem to remember seeing a sign advertising "Mr. Sandman" in front of the record store, when Marty went back to 1955, in the movie "Back to the Future".

"This Will Be Our Year" by The Zombies

Heard this song on Mad Men and remembered what a great song it is.  And this IS going to be our year!

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI2lTwY0Jx8

Rachel Update 19-June-2016: funny how prophetic this post was!  2015 was definitely my year!  When I made this post I had no idea when or exactly how I was going to transition: http://rachels-vital-music.blogspot.com/2015/04/its-my-life-by-no-doubt.html

Definitely 2015 turned out to be the best year of my life so far!

"Hurting Each Other" by Carpenters

This was my original post for 31-Dec-2014, which I had scheduled a couple of days before.  However, I have changed my mind and decided to push it out until today.  I want to write a special post for the last day of 2014.

I wanted to end the year on a happy note, but right now nothing is coming to mind.  When I said in my post a couple of days ago I wished we could all stop "hurting each other" it reminded me of this song.
