"It´s My Life" by Talk Talk

In the famous words of Monty Python: "And now for something completely different..."

I've decided that this is the last day for this blog (I am still planning to fill in the blank days in the past couple of years).  This is not a bad thing, in fact it is a wonderful thing!!  I feel like I have been reborn and I want my blog to reflect that.  I have created a new blog: Rachel's Vital Music to continue this blog with my new name.

I was thinking last night that "it's my life" and I have to live it the best way I can.  I feel like transitioning to Rachel has brought out the best in me and I am happier than I have ever been.  That reminded me of this song and then it occurred to me that there are two versions of this song that I really love.  I decided to post the original version with a male vocal as my last post as Scott and the cover by No Doubt with a female vocal as my first post as Rachel.  I thought it was symbolic of my change.

"Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" by Jimmie Rodgers

I was listening to the Ray Conniff Singers "Invisible Tears" album and it reminded me of this great song.  Funny thing: the album cover shown in the Ray Conniff video is different than any I've ever seen.  Since it is CBS instead of Columbia I assume it is European.  I notice the tracks are in a different order.

I found a great saying on Facebook today in one of my friends profile photo:

That's what scared me last night, wondering have I made a mistake?  Seeing this photo encouraged me, I can fly.

"Point of Know Return" by Kansas

I didn't realize until just now that this song was "Know Return" instead of "No Return", funny!  I realized tonight that I am way past the point of no return.  Kinda scary.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFWtsT5zRKo

Hard to remember the sleep last night,  I know there was an hour or hour and a half I was awake.  But it seems like I did get a couple of hours after that.

"Buttons and Bows" by The Ray Conniff Singers

I heard a song while running today that I wanted to post, but now I can't remember what it was.  I was playing the "It's the Talk of the Town" album and thought it was fun to hear this song.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66ojYxcQJfM

Slept about 5 hours, then awake for a couple, and slept another hour or so.  No leg or foot spasms last night, Yay!  I took a "legs" class at Planet Fitness yesterday, maybe that helped.

"Bless the Beasts and the Children" by Carpenters

Wonderful song.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhR36gV6vW4

A somewhat rocky night last night.  Woke up after 4 hours and took a couple of hours to get back to sleep.  Slept a couple more hours.  Had bad spasms in my foot at one point.

Finally remembered to take a muscle relaxer last night and got 8 hours of sleep.  Heavenly!  :)

"The Monkey And The Baboon" by Homer & Jethro

Planet Fitness 31-Mar-2015

Rachel  update 2017-07-25:

I was looking through the photos from my old camera and found this photo I had taken the day before.  It's good for April Fools!

Original Post:

This song showed up yesterday when I did the search on YouTube.  I remembered I love this song, funny and I like the guitar.  The album cover was great art.  I love the part in the comments about the "A and B" man threatening to slash his wrists unless we left his name off the album.  Any seems like the perfect song for April Fool's Day.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHOsgq38Kv8

My third bad insomnia night in a row.  I was feeling disappointed that a muscle relaxer even failed to help me sleep, but then I realized I forgot to take it.  :(

"Sound Off - No. 2 (The Duckworth Chant)" by Homer & Jethro

Had the funky MS legs thing happen again early this morning (see my Feb. 18th post).  Didn't last as long, but still plenty frightening.  It is curious that I ate cod both nights...  I thought before maybe it cooking grease might be a problem, but this time the fish was baked.

I was listening to the "Homer & Jethro Strike Back" album and enjoyed hearing this song.

WTF?!?!!  I cannot believe that I can't find this song on my blog.  I was absolutely, 100% certain that I already posted this song.  Is somebody deleting them??  This is such a great song, I'm sure I posted it last year when I was playing the Buffalo Springfield double album.

"Pure Love" by Ronnie Milsap

My"Best of All #86" cassette tape

This is me (now Rachel) writing this post almost 5 years in the future (7-Feb-2020) from this date.  At random, I pulled the above cassette ("Best of All #86") out of a box.  I decided I should log the songs on it as I listened to it.  This is a fun song I had forgotten about.

I was playing the Jack Jones "Live For Life" record album this morning.  It has my favorite version of "I Can't Get Started" (6-June-2012) on it, which is also my favorite Jack Jones song.  But I was listening to "Live For Life" and thinking what a great song that is...  and good advice too.  :)

"Coronet Blue" by Lenny Welch

Coronet Blue is another obscure TV theme I really like, that was also on the reel-to-reel tape I mentioned Yesterday.  The strange thing is that I have two different versions on the tape.  The only one I can find on YouTube is this one by Lenny Welch.  I haven't been able to find any information about an alternate version.

"A Man In a Suitcase" by Ron Grainer and his Orchestra

I have an old reel-to-reel tape that I recorded the theme songs to many old TV shows.  I loved this theme song but could not remember what TV show it was.  One of the recordings had a voice over announcing the series premier of the "Mod Squad", so I found a list of shows that ran on ABC the summer of 1968.

"Head Like a Hole" by Nine Inch Nails

I know this is a very weird transition (from Eddy Howard to Nine Inch Nails). but this is yet another glaring omission from my blog.  I was listening to the"Pretty Hate Machine" LP this morning and realized my oversight.  And lyrics so true:

God money let's go dancing on the backs of the bruised

"Girl, I'm Out to Get You" by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart

I found a record titled "Family Album" at Our Store (my new favorite little thrift store) a few days ago.   It is an A&M sampler album.  Side 1 was good, but Side 2 really grabbed me.  Especially this song, that I think is really fun.

Then I found the clip of them performing the song on the "I Dream of Jeannie" TV show.  Too funny!!

"Friday's Child" by Nancy Sinatra

Rachel Update 15-August-2016:

I originally posted "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" for this day.  But I really felt the urge to post it in Rachel's Vital Music blog, because of what I'm experiencing now.  So I've decided to allow my blogs to be more dynamic and to be able to move a song if I really feel the need.  After all this blog / list is really for myself anyway.

So I've moved "Boots" to 15-August-2016 and picked a different Nancy Sinatra song for this day.  I was just listening to the "Movin' with Nancy" album last week, while I was laying in the sun relaxing, and really enjoyed hearing this song.

It says in the comments for one of the videos that Nancy recorded two versions of this song, one for the "Movin'" album I mentioned and one for her "Nancy in London" album.

I realized another glaring omission from my blog is The Doors, one of favorite bands of all time.  How could I have forgotten to post any of their songs until now?

Rachel  update 22-Aug-2017:

Added photo from the Utah Aids Foundation Gala, that Jimmy invited me to that night.  My first night out as Rachel, it was a delightful experience!

Original Post:

I was thinking about this song this morning and I was going to send a friend a link to it in my blog.  I was shocked that I couldn't find it!  I was 100% certain that I had already posted it, I searched for it with every word that seemed reasonable, but it was nowhere to be found.  So I might as  well fix that error now.

Thanks to WJ for reminding me today (66 years ago) is "the day the music died".  Funny, this song is one that I still remember where I was when I first heard it: I had just come out of Carter's Electronic Supply on Washington Blvd. in Ogden.  I sat in the parking lot in the 1963 Pontiac Catalina and listened to the entire thing.

"Hurt So Bad" by the Lettermen

I was in Our Store last night and found a Lettermen album.  It wasn't a really interesting album, what I was interested in was that it had the stamps on it for the KLUB AM 570 Khz radio station.  That was my grandfather's favorite radio station.  I had to have it just for the stamp.  Today's song is NOT from this album.  It was one of their big hits from the 60's.

"I'll Stand By You" by Pretenders

On a trip to New York, SueZQ with the Twin Towers in the background

Rachel update 30-March-2020: turns out the original link is dead, I've added some new ones below.  Also removed "The" from the band name, it's just "Pretenders" without a "The".

I should add some notes to this now, since I'm out now living as a transgender-woman.  I believe that trip to my doctor was an epic one! The one when my doctor put me on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) to begin my transition.

This is my 5 year anniversary of living full-time as a woman.  It was the end of March 2015 and I started to put on some men's clothes to take a load to the dumps.  And SueZQ jumped in my shit, told me now that I'd come out to Mariah, it would confuse her  if she saw me wearing men's clothes again.  I legally changed my name and gender on 5-May-2015.

Anyway, it is pretty rare that a relationship/marriage survives one of the persons in it changing their gender.  So SueZQ staying with me after my transition is really incredible, she really has stood by me.

Original Post:

We were on the way home from the doctor's office today and this song came on the radio.  Sue said that it should be her theme song and I have to agree, she certainly has done that.

"She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper

There was a link to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" on the song I posted yesterday.  But when I checked, today, I already posted "Time After Time" on 9-Nov-2012.  So I thought I would post another Cyndi Lauper favorite today.

"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman

My Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 at Bonneville Raceway
Rachel update 26-Dec-2018: added photo above.

I think it is somewhat rare that a song reaches out and grabs me the first time I hear it and I say "that is an incredible song".  This is one of those songs.  I even remember  where I was the first time I heard it, I was listening to X96 driving down Sunnyside Ave. just East of East High School.

"Give Me One Reason" by Tracy Chapman

Happy Birthday to our wonderful friend Nanell!  We had a text conversation that reminded me of this great song, so I thought I would post it for today.

"Mr. Sandman" by The Chordettes

I was trying to think of a song from 1955 this morning.  I was playing the "Remember How Great...?  Volume 2" record (see my post from October 24th).  And I seem to remember seeing a sign advertising "Mr. Sandman" in front of the record store, when Marty went back to 1955, in the movie "Back to the Future".

"This Will Be Our Year" by The Zombies

Heard this song on Mad Men and remembered what a great song it is.  And this IS going to be our year!

Rachel Update 19-June-2016: funny how prophetic this post was!  2015 was definitely my year!  When I made this post I had no idea when or exactly how I was going to transition: http://rachels-vital-music.blogspot.com/2015/04/its-my-life-by-no-doubt.html

Definitely 2015 turned out to be the best year of my life so far!

"Hurting Each Other" by Carpenters

This was my original post for 31-Dec-2014, which I had scheduled a couple of days before.  However, I have changed my mind and decided to push it out until today.  I want to write a special post for the last day of 2014.

I wanted to end the year on a happy note, but right now nothing is coming to mind.  When I said in my post a couple of days ago I wished we could all stop "hurting each other" it reminded me of this song.
